The Piratefish Open Source Anti-Spam System on Ubuntu Linux.

About Piratefish.org

The Piratefish Anti-Spam system was conceived by John Silvia, utilizing a number of open source tools for which there seemed to be no single comprehensive guide on how to implement and integrate these tools into a single working system. The Piratefish 1.0 guide is the direct result of this endeavor and was released in December of 2005.

Adding new features and supporting end users, the Piratefish had gained enough popularity and attention that updates to the main document were warranted. With the addition of more features and more pages, the little 27 page document had grown to over 80 pages - and it was ready to publish.

Additional development is on-going. Features such as a custom installation gui, customized webmin interface and real-time charting are in development. Future releases of Piratefish in the form of a bootable CD-ROM distribution are being considered as well.

About the Author

John Silvia has over 30 years experience in all aspects of computer technology including telecommunications, local area networking, wide area networking, computer security and software development. He has worked as a software designer, programmer, installer, software support engineer, troubleshooter, network manager, network designer, web developer, telecommunications provisioner, security analyst and hosting engineer.

Early in his career, Mr. Silvia programmed custom database and educational software for companies such as Home Life Insurance, Buckeye Pipeline, Coca-Cola and Southland Corporation. He has since been dedicated to understanding and applying technology wherever possible. During his pre-Internet career he maintained networks and software diligently, gaining years of practical hands-on experience at all levels - designing networks and implementing security solutions before the Internet was used commercially.

In 1995 Mr. Silvia began working for a library information systems company called CARL Corporation, an early commercial adopter of the Internet. Following CARL, John was hired by Cavion.com and helped to design, establish and secure Cavion.com's network and customer base by integrating Cavion.com's Internet services into each customer's network. After Cavion.com, John joined Telenisus Corporation as a Security Engineer, integrating Firewalls into customer locations throughout the country. Leaving Telenisus in January of 2001, John joined with Craig Lassen to found the Cadamier Security Corporation. John joined Fishnet Security in late 2007, then switched to a Boulder Colorado startup called Symplified as the Senior Hosting Operations Engineer. John currently works at Cricket Communications as a Network Security Engineer.

John also has published a number of 3D models shared in Google's 3D warehouse - computer room designs, APC cabinets, ladder racks and other telecommunications hardware have been modeled in 3D and are available for download into Google Sketchup for free. For those of you wanting to draw anything in 3D, Google Sketchup is free, easy to learn, and powerful.

John can be contacted by calling 303-249-3204 (cell) during any waking and working hour.
